For $240 million, NXP announced the acquisition of Aviva Links

On December 17, Eastern time, NXP Semiconductors announced an important strategic acquisition on its official website.  The company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Aviva Links, a startup with advanced technology in the Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA) space, in a $242.5 million all-cash transaction.

This acquisition not only marks NXP's further expansion into advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), but also demonstrates its commitment to enabling in-vehicle digital cockpools for software-defined vehicles (SDVS).  Aviva Links' advanced ASA-compatible portfolio, which supports data rates up to 16 Gbps, has received design orders from several major automotive Oems and is providing device samples to several Oems and Tier 1 suppliers.

Since its inception in 2019, the Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA) has been driving the development of open source, interoperable networking solutions, and NXP, as one of its founding members, has been at the forefront of this change.  ASA offers open standards that cover data rates from 2 Gbps to 16 Gbps and include link layer security.  This standard not only establishes SerDes point-to-point communication, but also solves the problem of seamless migration to efficient Ethernet-based sensor connectivity.

NXP's Market Intelligence forecasts that the market size for ADAS and IVI asymmetric links will grow from $1 billion in 2024 to $2 billion in 2034.  With this acquisition of Aviva Links, NXP expects to facilitate this growth by driving the market shift from proprietary links to open standard ASA SerDes connections.  The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2025, subject to all closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
